This Indenture made & entered into this fifteenth day of May in the year Eighteen hundred & fifty two Between William C. Southgate of the first part and John R. Ludlow of the other part:  Witnesseth that for & in consideration of the sum of One thousand dollars to him in hand paid by the said John R. Ludlow at & before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, he the said William C. Southgate Doth grant bargain sell & convey unto the said John R. Ludlow & his heirs a certain lot piece or parcel of land Situated at the South eastern corner of Bute & Catharine Streets in the City of Norfolk and bounded as follows.  Beginning at the said Corner of Bute & Catharine Streets & running thence Eastwardly along Bute Street, One hundred feet, thence Southwardly at a right angle with Bute Street to Ridley's line, thence Westwardly along Ridley's line to Catharine Street, thence Northwardly along Catharine Street to the beginning.  Also a certain lot piece or parcel of land Situated on the South Side of Bute Street (of a triangular form) adjoining the above on the East and bounded as follows.  Beginning on the said Bute Street (in the City of Norfolk) at the North East corner of the lot conveyed to William C.
