John Williams, colored, states, that June 29th 1867. he went to a house on the road leading from the Aqueduct Bridge to Taylor's Hill, near the site of Fort Morton. with George Mahoney, colored, and two women. before they got to the house, James Becket, colored, came up and said the woman that was with Mahoney was the "one he was looking for." wanting to take her from Mahoney. Mahoney refused. saying, "let me take the woman to the house, then you can do what you see cause." Becket kept insisting and annoying Mahoney and the woman, Mahoney telling him "he had better keep away, as he did not want to have any fuss." Wm. Blackwell and Charles Parker tried to keep Becket away Parker saying to him. "let Mahoney take the woman to the house, and you can get satisfaction after you get there." There was one blow struck at this time, but he does not know who by, nor who got hit. after they got to the house Charles Parker got his supper, and when called on to pay for it, refused, saying "he had paid for it." Mahoney said if it ain't paid for, I'll pay for it." at this time everyone commenced talking at once, there was a great deal of confusion, and I went out of the dining room into the big room and did not go back
