Henrietta Cotta,

I heard the fuss in the room. I went in to see what it was and it was Charles Parker abusing Lizzie Campbell, calling her bitches &c I was in the back room heard the report of a shot and think it was a pistol, it sounded to me like one, see no one escape, was in the back room.

Martha Dodson,

I was coming up the road in a hurry and saw two men on the road by the cornfield (Chs Mahoney one) and these two men were quarrelling with themselves, and Mr. Veach said to them, what in the hell you do here? says he, and the men says to him, what is it your business? I am not troubling your house. Mr. Veach, Constable, says to him, get off my cornfield you black son of a bitch, and he pulls out his revolver, out of his pocket, and said, if you do not get off my cornfield I shoot you, you black son of a bitch, and Mr. Veach took out his revolver and point it at him, and I says to him, for God's sake do not shoot that man, I'll take him off from the cornpatch. I took the man off the cornpatch, and Mr. Veach called for some men to go after the guard and then I got George away, and when I got George way Mr. Veach went away then and I did not see him then until the guards came. I did not seen him anymore, until I heard the report
