I have the honor to submit the following report of a shooting affray, which occurred in this County, on the night of the 10th inst.

Thomas Garner and James Mathews (both col'd) have been working a farm together since last January, but have not been living in the same house.

It appears that Mathews, who is a preacher, has been in the habit of visiting Garner's wife secretly, and that Garner has suspected his wife of being unfaithful to her marriage vow.

On the night above mentioned, Mathews went to the house of Garner and took tea with the family, as that time neither party showing any signs of anger. About an hour afterwards, is them being about eight o'clock, Garner went up stairs to bed leaving his wife and Mathews
