Pleas at the Court house of Bedford County, before the worshipful Justices of the County Court of said County, on Tuesday the 30th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight and sixty seven.

Be it remembered that at this same term to wit:
At a Quarterly Court begun, and held for Bedford County, at the Court house, on Monday the 22d day of July 1867, Joseph B. Layne Gentleman Foreman, Chasteen M. Sublett, William B. Scruggs, George W. Overacre, Jesse Coleman, William A. Jeter, Calvin Ca. Burnett, John W. Andrews, William E. Lowry, Nichols W. Robertson, Abram L. Krauts, Edmund W. Horsley, Lodwick M. Oglesby, Palestine W. Noell, Jefferson Plearter, and Robt A. Jones were sworn a Grand Jury of inquest for the body of this county, and having received their charge, retired, and after some time, returned into court and presented an indictment against Rob. Holmes, a colored person for melicious shooting, "A true Bill" which Indictment is in the words following to wit:
State of Virginia
Bedford County. The Jurors of the Commonwealth of Virginia in and for the body of the County of Bedford, and now attending the said court upon their oath present that Rob Holmes a colored person on the seventh day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven in the said County with a certain pistol, then and there loaded with Gunpowder and a leaden bullet, which said pistol, he the said Rob Holmes then and there had and held in his right
