Head Quarters Sub District of Lynchburg. Lynchburg Va. Oct 16th 1867. Lieut L.W. Stevenson, Military Commissioner, Campbell County Lieutenant: Referring, to the case of Robert Hunt, and Pannel, in which one was beaten, and certain property broken and destroyed by Stanhope F Read, A.B. Dukes, Edwin R King, Wm. Magan, and Patrick Dougherty, I am directed, by the Brevet Major General Commanding, to say, that, you will award, private damages, against, the assailants in favor of the party, or parties, assailed, and in due proportion provide, that, in your judgement, it can be done, to the satisfaction, of justice and the interest, of the injured parties.
