for Mr Goodwin, last year on shares Mr Goodwin refused a settlement for what reason I could not learn.  Tom had repeatedly applied to Mr Goodwin for a division, stating that he would abide by the decision of any gentleman named, but to all his appeals Mr Goodwin obstantily refused any compliance with his request.

Mr Austin says that [[strikethrough]] at the time [[/strikethrough]] on the Evening of the fire a heavy snow laid on the ground, and that Tom could not have reached the warehouse by the shortest route without being tracked, and by the other route he could not have got there before the commencement of the fire.  Mr Austin also states that Mr Goodwin was perfectly satisfied from his statement that Tom was not guilty of the act.

Notwithstanding these explanations Tom was taken from Mr Austins house by men in human form, calling themselves FFVs stripped, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] tied to a fence and whipped unmercifully and afterwards
