General:- I have the honor to inform you, that Thomas Jefferson, arrived here yesterday delivering to me your communication of the 19th inst.

From the fact that Judg Nelson, one of the parties implicated in this affair, having had not only an interview with Jefferson, but was also at this Office Some two weeks Since, evidently for no other purpose than to see if a compromise Could not be made. I deemed it proper to Telegraph you as I did yesterday. 

Maj Hopkins will be at Louisa C House today, in co with Jefferson, The result of his visit will be forwarded on his return. As the parties reside some 33 miles from this point & 18 from the C House, and the almost impossible Condition of the Roads in many Sections, will delay somewhat
