warrant for the arrest of Pollard. I could not get an officer to serve it as the constable at Warrenton refused to go out of his district. Mr. J.G. Foster went back to W and saw Lt. Chase, when the constable was ordered to serve the warrant as he would be indicted before the Grand Jury for not doing his duty. The warrant was finaly served and the case take before Mr Stone who has not tried it as yet. while at Warrenton on the 29th January 1867 attending to the getting of the warrant my house was burned down to the ground with every thing I owned I had a Hunting dog that was tied in the house and burned up in it; I am not sure who burned it down. I went again to Lt. Chase to see what could be done in the matter on court day Feb 26th 1867 and upon my return to the Junction I went into Dr. Shomate's store and was accosted by one Thomas Fant who commenced questioning me about my business to Warrenton I told him that I thought he was very inquisitive, when upon he struck me over the left eye with a pistol causing a wound about an inch long and then fired the pistol at me the ball passing just back of my neck burning my hair and also burning the collar which I had on. I left and went home to avoid further trouble"
