A statement required by Maj Hopkins in regard to the two judgements against W. Y. Reynolds and John
Reynolds in favor of Henry Woodson. I have a contract with John A. Wather to boat all my lumber to
Richmond which he has done and I have paid him. I did not employ Henry Woodson nor no other person: but Mr. Wather to boat my lumber. Henry Woodson was hired to Mr. Wather to run his boat. I never knew nor heard of Woodson until Wather hired him to run his boat. Woodson was a slave until slaves were declared free by the Presidents proclamation April 1865 as to the judgement against me I knew nothing about it until it was presented to me for collection. I have never had any notice to appear at any court. I dont owe Henry Woodson anything. John Reynolds was only an agent for me; and has been in no other
persons employment Mefs'r. Magruder and Hawley have given their certificates stating he Woodson was
a slave up to the time slaves was declared free April 1865.

I concur in the above statement as being the fact as all the business was transacted by me
