any farther. - Another Soldier came running along - not a guard - I also stopped him - they both came with the guard I think. I saw them go away with the guard - The guard did not help me. Sgt Nichols was holding one of the wounded men. I called to him to order his men back, not to let them go into the Hospital - He called them back, but they would not come back. There were several soldiers there without [[?]] - As soon as the guard came, they went in, without regard to me - One of the guards raised his gun, and thrust it at a freedmen which I grasped and prevented him from striking him - Another guard standing at the Hospital steps [[strikethrough]] door [[/strikethrough]] there, holding his bayonet up to & shouted at one of the other freedmen - The freedman belonged to the Hospital.- They were in Hospital employ - had said nothing to the soldiers - they were both inside the fence - One soldier [[strikethrough]] after [[/strikethrough]] just before this came up and struck [[strikethrough]] the soldier [[/strikethrough]] a freedman with a stick. The Sgt was standing where he could see all that occurred I think - I heard several words said but couldn't tell what they were.-

I heard Parker say Tuesday morning that he was going down town. I tried to induce him not to go, but could not. - "he said he wasn't going to see any of the boys hurt - I heard Parker [[strikethrough]] these [[/strikethrough]] soldier [[strikethrough]] s [[/strikethrough]], say the night before that he had a row with Dick Burton and that he was going to whip him or kill him, I don't remember which.
