In few minutes, after Col J's appearance a patrol squad of Sol'. appeared & chg'd down the street under charge of Sgt Nichols - Col Jordan with the aid of the patrol, succeeded in ridding the street of the soldiers and belligerent parties; Peace and quietness was restored then - I know only from common report - but think the primary cause, was by reason of a certain order from Lt Egbert, prohibiting liquor being sold to sol'd.- I saw about five or six soldiers on one side and in colored & white on other side, about 15 in all 20. So far as I saw, & think the attack was commenced by the Sol's. I am satisfied that they were the aggressors in this case. They inaugurated the riot, and accomplished I think [[strikethrough]] not [[/strikethrough]] between six & eight colored were injured with one white policeman cut by patrol with bayonet. The Sutler's clerk of Company was also injured - about three soldiers were injured that I saw -
