Post of Yorktown Va,
Dec 11th 1867.

Colonel,
In compliance with your instructions, I have investigated the Claim of F.W. Power for the rent of property occupied in part by the U. States in Yorktown
The commissary Store House of the F.s Bureau is on a lot owned by the said Power. The buildings were erected by the Goverment during the War. I cannot learn that the land was abandoned. I think it probably was not
About twenty months ago Mr F.C. Newman of this place rented a house and lot from F.W. Power He has shown me receipts from F.W. Power brother and agent which acknowledged the receipt of a monthly rent for house and lot
Mr Newman claims that the lot includes the land upon which the F.B. Comry Store Houses in question are upon.
The lot upon the town plot had the exclusive claim for it by Mr Newman.
During the war all the fences were destroyed and now there is no enclosure about the [[strikethrough]] lot [[/strikethrough]] house at all.
There is no Barn unless the house is meant, of
