As Mr Chandler the U. States District Attorney is out of town, and as I was the Law partner of Mr Chandler, at the time when the facts and proceedings, embraced in this statement of Mr Newton, occurred, I fully verify the statement from personal knowledge of the deed and other facts and proceedings therein mentioned. I also know from Mr Chandlers own statements to me, as well as to Mr Newton, that he admitted the error of the Decree of Court, and recommended to Mr N. the course he has mentioned, in this statement, and was present to make the announcement on the day of sale, which was suspended, as Mr N. states, before it reached White's name, and was not afterwards resumed.
