Personally appeared before me a Notary Public in & for said County Samuel Strawner a resident of Fairfax County Virginia, who being by me duly sworn, doth depose and say that he was on or about the 14th day of June 1865, the owner of a dark bay Mare, which has been feloniously taken from him at his residence aforesaid, and doth further say that he has reason to believe that said mare was taken by one Edward Green a resident of Fairfax County Virginia.

He also states that said mare has been sold by the said Edward Green, to one Wesley Baker, and by him sold to one Marshall Allford, and since sold by the said person last mentioned to one George Strothern.
 
He further avers that the two last mentioned are residents of Fauquir County Virginia, and that they live in said County near Markham Station.

He doth further aver that he has endeavored to obtain the assistance of Capt Gates of B. R. F. & A.L. at Warenton Virginia to obtain said mare, and that said assistance
