PAY DEPARTMENT UNITED STATES ARMY.

Richmond, Va., March 26th 1867.
Capt. Wm P. Austin
[[strikeout]] Norfolk [[/strikeout]] Wytheville
Sir

It appears from correspondence on file here and at the War Department that the money paid by me to Capt JB Bostwick, Co A 10th U.S.C.T for priv. Louis Tazal of said co. and regiment and was by him Capt Bostwick turned over to you to be given to the man. By you it appears to have been turned over to an irresponsible party (a sergeant) to be forwarded. Since that time nothing has been heard of it, and I have been directed by the War Department to pay the same again out of my own salary, which I have done. I respectfully request that you take some measures to discover what has become of the money turned over by you, and if possible have it returned to me.
Very Respectfully Your Obt Servt
