Brevet Maj. J. H. Remington,
Sub-Asst. Commissioner

Major,
In obedience to your letter of request, 15th inst. I have the honor to respectfully report: - that our present room for office use is in the building No. 47. Bank Str. up one flight of stairs which building needs some paint and repairs to render it respectable. We can occupy it only until January next, in any case, and by moving now, can secure just the place for a business like ours.

We have on our books 911 depositions, and a balance due them of nearly $40,000 00/100 which balance is steadily increasing. We have usually from 200 to 300 calls on business, in every week. The payments of bounties, through our Bank, will during the present year bring in four or five thousand ex-soldiers several times, in addition to regular business, and as each of these will receive from the Govt. from $200 00/100 to $500 00/100, and can without doubt, if the Bank has a "safe lock", be induced to deposit one half the amounts, it becomes quite important that we have suitable quarters. The present place is large enough, but looks shabby, and as we must move next January, it seems advisable to do so now while so good a room can be secured.

The use of the "Vault" too, in the proposed new quarters will obviate the necessity of using another Bank for our deposits, which
