Dear Sir,
Being in distress and having heard that you had determined that the Freedman of the south should have justice meted out to them, I now appeal to you as the proper authority to see that I and my family have that justice which a free government has garenteed that we shall have.

On the first of this month, my wife & daughter, age 15 years, was assaulted and insulted and in fact violence offered and otherewise maltreated.

I as a good citizen had the offender carried before a justice of the peace when the case came up, the agent
