4. The said Farm has never been sold for taxes or other Govt dues, which have been always promptly paid, and the Govt of the United States has acquired no title to the same by sale, confiscation or otherwise, For evidence of which a certificate of the Clerk of the District Court of the United States at Norfolk, Va. is herewith filed marked D.

5. Your Petitioner took and subscribed before competent authority the oath of Amnesty prescribed by the President of the United States in his Proclamation of the 29th of May 1865, to wit on the day of 1865. A copy of saith oath is herewith filed, marked E. 

Your petitioner avers that his said farm never was abandoned by him. When the war broke out he was a resident of Isle of Wight County and the farm was in the possession of said Ann M. Powell, his tenant.

On the 1st day of April 1865, the time of making said Lease your Pet'r. was still living in said Isle of Wight Co. and within the lines of the armies of the United States. 

The profits of said farm are not more than enough to keep down the interest of said mortgage, and to pay taxes.

In tender consideration whereof your Petitioner prays his said lands be restored to him, with
