I have the honor to report that Emanuel Butt (Freedman) was murdered by one James Smith (white) near Great Bridge Norfolk Co Va. on the 13th Inst. I was present at the inquest of the Coroner held up on the remains of the murdered man and the evidence, although contradictory upon certain points, was such as to render it extremely probably (a probability that was strengthened by the fact that the murderer had fled from justice), that, the killing was unjustifiable. The coroner's jury returned a verdict of "Justifiable homicide" in self defence" A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the accused, which up to the present date has not been effected

Do not hit [enter] at the end of the written line... let it wrap the way the SI program wraps. Otherwise, it gets all janky when we switch between landscape and portrait. There are end quote after the Justifiable Homicide, but then again after self defence
