I have the honor to make a application for clerckship in your department. I have served during the war in the 30th Regiment Mass Vet. Vols. in which regiment I was severely wounded at the battle of Cedar Creek on the 19th of October 64, which disables me now from doing any kind of laboreous work having read in the N. Y. papers that General Schofield would require several hundred clerks for the registration act I was recommanded by Genl. Ketchum to make the application accordingly trough your headquarters
