Norfolk, Va. September 7th 1867
           
PERSONALLY appeared before me, a [[strikethrough]] Commissioned Officer and Superintendent of the Bureau of R.F. and A. L.[[//strikethrough]] Notary Public for the City of Norfolk Va Adam Brown who being duly sworn, declare that he is the only brother of the identical Harry Brown who was a private in Company E of the 37th Reg't of U.S.C. Troops Volunteers,
and who enlisted in the service of the United States, at Newport News, Va. on the 23rd day of January 1865, and [[strikethrough]] was discharged from [[//strikethrough]] died while in the service of the United States at Wilmington N.C. on the 26th day of October 1865. 

That he claims one hundred dollars bounty retained from his Brother under General Order, No.
90, Head Quarters, Department of Virginia and North Carolina, Series, 1864. 

That he never received a certificate of retained bounty,
[[strikethrough]]that he lost hid certificate of retained bounty at [[//strikethrough]] [[strikethrough]] on or about the day of [[//strikethrough]]
that his Father and Mother are both dead that he died having neither widow or orphan children nor any brother or sister except the said Adam Brown

That I, Adam Brown have made, constituted and appointed, and by these presents do make, constitute and appoint Capt. [[strikethrough]] JAMES A. BATES [[//strikethrough]] Garrick Mallery, Act. Asst. Adgt. Genl., my true and lawful Attorney, for me and my name, place and stead, to draw and obtain for me the sum of 100 dollars and - cents, now deposited in and
with the Bureau of R.F.& A.L., Washington, D.C., and also deposite the same with Freedmen's Savings and Trust Company at Norfolk Va in my name immediately upon its receipt by him.

ALSO, Personally appeared before me, Lewis Riggin and William Gray
of the County of Norfolk and state of Virginia who being duly sworn, declare that the above named applicant is the nearest living relative of Harry Brown dec'd who was a private in Company E of thirty seventh Regiment of 
U.S.A. Troops Volunteers, and know him to be the identical person named in the foregoing declaration; and
that they have no interest whatever in the application.
