Bureau Refugees, freemen, and Abandoned Lands. Head Quarters 1st Sub-District, Va. Norfolk, Va. Sept 26th 1867.

Major
I have the honor to request that the ration issued to the Old Folks Home Princess Ann County be increased, the ration now issued Consisting only of Meal & Meat with Sub vegetables as the Farm affords is totally inadequate to meet the wants of the inmates. Many of these people are old and bedridden and require tea or coffee, Sugar, and other articles which I have no means of Supplying them with. Soap is especially necessary. I would respectfully Suggest that the "Home" be place under the control of the Medical Officer of the Bureau on duty at this post that they may be enabled to draw a hospital ration. Dr Lessing after inspecting the "Home" agrees with me that the ration Should be increased to benefit the health of its inmates,
Very respectfully your obt Servt Ed. Murphy 1st Lieut V.R.C. Asst Sub Asst Comr.
