Div Amherst Nelson, Campbell and Appomattox Cos. for investigation - R.S. Lacey Capt. & Agent in charge B.R.F. & A. Lands Office 1st Div 7th Sub Dist Lynchburg Va Decr 8th 1867 Respectfully returned to Capt. R.S. Lacey Agt in charge 7th Sub Dist Va Roberts claims to have belonged to Capt Jennings Co. 7th Va. Militia in the war of 1812 - but he was mustered into services at Peach Orchard, & out at Fort Barber, near Norfolk, after serving nine months He has no papers to show that he served as a soldier in 1812 - though his statement is doubtless correct. He is nearly blind, about 76 years old, & could not have exceeded more than sympathy in aid of the Rebellion. He is very much in want, & the allowance from the overseers of the poor is totally inadequate to his necessities. I would recommend any assistance that it may be in accordance with Bureau regulations to afford Louis W. Stevenson 2d Lt A.S.A C. E.B. 84 - 123 [[?]]
