General,
In reply to your communication of the 16 inst. I have the honor to state that I have seen Miss Caroline Smith (col’d)  She is at present Employed on the Str. L. G. Cannon running between Norfolk Va & Edenton N. C. In answer to the question “who was at the House of Mrs Nims the night, she left?” She States: Mrs Francis Hightown and Mrs Braswell daughters of Mrs Nims and Mr Braswell the husband of the latter. She says that she can go for her Children in case transportation can be furnished for them, as she can go from here to Norfolk and from New York to Savanah free of Expense
