Bureau R. F. & A. L.
Office Asst Supidt.
Burkeville, Va, Dec 31st 1866.

Bt Brig Gen. O. Brown,
A. A. Adjutant Gen'l,

I have the honor to report. that on the 3rd August 1866, a Freedboy named "Robert" was beaten and drove off the plantation, by his employer Mr Robert Boerum of Nottoway Co, Va, without any compensation for his services. He immediately applied to magistrates, Hardaway and Harding for redress, which they assured him. they would attend to; since which time no action has been taken in the matter, with the excepsion of that, the defendant has been summoned to appear, but has never done so, nor has the summons been enforced. I have spoken to the magistrates in reference to it, and though profuse with their promises, they have as yet taken no action.

Respectfully Your ob'dt Ser'vt,
D. Jerome Connolly,
Brvt Capt. U.S. Vols,
Asst Supidt.
