BUREAU REFUGEES, FREEDMEN AND ABANDONED LANDS,
OFFICE ASS'T. SUPT. SUB-DISTRICT EMBRACING PRINCE EDWARD, BUCKINGHAM, CUMBERLAND AND CHARLOTTE COUNTIES, VA.
FARMVILLE, VA., Feby 16th 1867.

Maj J. R. Stone
Supt 2nd District
Petersburg, Va.

Maj.

In the matter of the case of Peter Mason vs Geo Farrar of Appomattox Co. Va. referred to in my letter of Oct 10th 1866. I have the honor to state that prior to the date named, a number of complaints had been made to me as coming from the said County, but none of them seemed to me to be, as aggravated as this Mason case. - Upon inquiry, I learned that there was no officer at Appomattox C.H. (which is only 23 Miles from this Post) & I deemed it my duty to call the attention of the Supt of that District to the complaint. Since that date, however, no complaints have reached me from that county. and as the above-named Peter Mason cannot be found I can only report the statement made in the letter alluded to viz:

That Geo Farrar a citizen of Appomattox County residing near Pamphlon's Depot.
