I have the honor to inform you that I have this day received notice from the Secretory of War to the effect that if I accept the appt, and take a Board of examination
Convened at Louisville Ky, I will be recommended to the Senate for the appointment of 2 Lieutenant in the Six Regt. U.S.A. (Inft) — requiring also that I appear before said Board on or before the 30th inst

I have accepted the same, & request that I may be relieved, and granted "Leave" of Absence, to reach said Board
