In answer to eight communications, rec'd from Hd Qrs Asst Coms'r, March 25th 1867, with reference to Special Reports, forwarded by the Asst Sup'dt and referred back to the latter Official with request to bring such cases to the attention of the Civil Authorities, and report the result of such action, I have the honor to report as follows, 
Nottoway County. 
Case no. 1. Isaac Royal, Freedman, imprisoned without proper examination. Result, case examined into, prisoner released on bail. 
Case No. 2. M. Cochran, Freedman, beaten by a Mr T.L. Cochran. Result the matter was compromised by the parties. 
Case No. 3. Silas Shelton, Freedman, beaten by M.E. Stokes. Result, owing to the inefficiency or indisposition of the Constable Stokes has not yet been arrested, but warrant has been issued. 
Case No. 4. Richard Fitzgerald, Freedman, beaten by a Mr Jas Lacy. Result case tried by Circuit Court, & Mr Lacey acquitted, but the Jury disregarded the law, and evidence in the case 
Case No. 5. Lucy Ann Royal Freedwoman, beaten & stabbed by M.A. Jones Result, defendant died and case was dismissed by Court.
