Rockbridge Cty Va
March 12th 1867
To the superintender of the freedman's beauroug,
Sir
We have and old freedman in the vicinity of the Naturalbridge which is deranged & is dangerous to be let run at large. There are no one with him to take care of him but his wife & she is old & is not able to manage him alone. She wishes to know whether you cannot do something for her. This is the first time he has been so, & it can be proven. This old man was sent to jail some two weeks ago & when he got there, there was a freedman swore that he was not deranged which is false. He has to be confined all the time. He seems to be getting worse every day. His wife is very anxious for you to do something with him for she is not able to manage [[strikethrough]] to manage [[/strikethrough]] him.
