Capt:- I have the honor to request that the following case, which is the substance of a statement made to this office by Catherine Steward, colored, be referred to the proper officer for action. She states that in the year 1866, Maj Crandon, then Supt. of Gordonsville, with her consent, bound her daughter Mary Ella Steward, to Mrs. Strange of that place. She now wishes to have the indenture annulled and the child returned to her, stating that she was intimidated into trading the child out.
