sworn declares that she is the mother of Catherine Steward the above affiant, that she did write frequent letters to Mrs. Strange of Gordonsville Va requesting that her daughter and grand daughter be sent to the city to her. That Mr. Srange in her answers informed her that she wished them to remain with her, to take care of; that in reply to her last letter, Mrs. Strange informed her that Catherine (her daughter) had bound her daughter to her (Mrs. Strange), whereupon she went to Gordonsville in person to cook for her child and grandchild. Upon finding them and inquiring of her daughter why she had not come to live in Petersburg as requested in her letters, the daughter informed her that she did not know that she had ever sent for her, as Mrs. Strange had told her that her Mother was dead.
