Statement of John Crittenden (Col.)
At Powhatan C.H. Va. June 5th 1867.

John Crittenden states, that he was born the slave of Jordan Harris, (who was the father of James M. Harris) and raised as a dining-room servant; that some time after he became a man grown, Jordan Harris moved to Ky. and left him with this son James M. Harris. That at the time Jordan Harris left Va. he (Crittenden) was boating flour from Woodbury Mills, on the James River to Richmond, and continued in that business for James M. Harris until he, (Harris) "broke up" at Woobury Mills, That then James M. Harris hired him out as Boatman on the James River about ten years, then  he (Crittenden) hired himself from J. M. Harris and
