commenced boating on the Appomattox River, and at the commencement of the third year bought himself from said James M. Harris, paying down in Bonds and Due-Bills that he had accumulated while hiring himself. that at the time he bought himself he had a wife and children with M. Harris, and always had the privilege of making his home there, that the bond in question was given some five or six years after he had bought himself, and three hundred dollars he loaned him (Harris) a short time before letting him have the six hundred. ---
Crittenden has a memorandum of the $300. Which reads as follows, -- Read, John Crittenden on loan three hundred dollars to be returned in some short time.
