My Negro man, (John Crittenden) the bearer hereof, is sent to the springs in the mountains of Virginia for the benefit of his health, and has my permission to visit any or all of the Springs as may seem best to himself, and in case he may feel able to engage in the services of any Hotel Keeper, or any other person to whom he can be of service, I recommend him as a man of great fidelity of character in the satisfaction to him employer, who is fully authorised to pay him, for any services rendered- He is permitted to remain in the mountains until the fall, and & return go & by any of the respective rail road, or Majr Routs  he may select.
