Sir:

I have the honor to report in compliance with orders contained in yrs. of 26th inst. regarding the case of Thomas Wagstaff (freedman) vs. Miles Wagstaff (white) For the possession of a horse (worth about $11.)

The claim of Tom W. was based upon an order from a Bureau Officer, dated October, 1865., in which Miles W. was ordered to deliver to Tom, a horse, upon the payment, by Tom, of Nine Dollars;  Tom presented this order and wished me to make Miles give it (the horse) up to him immediately- I refused until I had listened to both sides of the story- Appointed Saturday June 22nd for a hearing, giving Tom over two weeks to notify his witnesses.   It was clearly proven
