Forwards to Col Jordan for his information a statement made by a Colored Man living near the line of Charlotte and Mecklenburg Cos., that he had been informed by people living in his neighborhood that on the 10th of June a meeting was held at Wylliesburg, Charlotte Co. speeches made to the colored people by Col. Clackston and others - that Frank Jones Barnes read an address to them, stating that if they voted for them (these old masters &c) they would have 40 acres of land given them and, $50 for a start. - A colored man spoke after Barnes saying he was from Hs. Qrs. and that the colored people would be given 40 acres of land and $100 to start with.
