| 1867 Oct 17th | The United State in behalf of Green Thwait v.s. H.A. Liverman. | Action of Assault and Battery. | Evidence went to sho that in July 1867, the accused attacked the complainant, (who is an old man), with a club, for answering in an evasive manner a question put to him relative to one of the other hands, striking him on the head therewith, so as to make him nearly insensible. Accused then seized him by the throat and pounded him in the face with his fists, from the effects of which he is suffering at this time. | Prisoner to pay a fine of $10.00, and costs, $5.00, and give bonds to keep the peace towards the Complainant for one year, in the sum of $200.00. Fine paid and bond given by Mr J.W. Gilliam and on file. | This case was taken before the Grand Jury of Dinwiddie County, who refused to find an indictment against the accused; hence my order to the Sheriff to bring the man before me. |
