Claim for fuel furnishe indigent freedmen and freedwomen on his farm Roseland, and neighboring localities, since organization of Freedmen's Bureau.

No claim is asserted for fuel furnished prior to the organization of the Bureau, Gen. Howard, when a general claim was presented in my behalf by Gen. Butler, having decided to follow the decision of Secretary Stanton, that no claim could be paid which arose prior to such organization.

But Gen. Howard conceded and still concedes, that a claim for fuel furnished since such organization, constitutes a valid claim against the Bureau.
