Lawrenceville Va. Dec. 13th 1867

Bvt Brig Genl O. Brown
Asst Commissioner
Richmond Va.

General,
I have the honor to submit herewith the following report of cases wherein I have taken action as Military Commissioner, when and after the civil authorities had neglected or declined to take action or had failed to render judgement. To wit:

[[3 columned table]]
| Date of Action | Case and disposition thereof | Remarks |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Nov 20, 1867 | Sterling James, cold. vs J. L. Doyle / Action for debt. Parties appeared, evidence heard. Judgement that Deft pay to Pltff. forty-eight & 20/100 dollars ($48.20/100) & costs Settled in keeping with judgement | The action taken in this case was original military jurisdiction, for the reason that the Deft did not intend to pay the Pltff; and that the local civil authorities before whom the case would have been brought sided with him, (Deft.) |
