The enclosed is a copy of notice read by Marshal at the sale of Elizabeth City property as furnished by Judge Underwood 
Elizabeth City County have been taken by the Superintendent. Negro affairs, under the authority of the Secy: of War, and are occupied by Contrabands, and temporary improvements for their benefit have been erected by said Superintended, possession of such farms will not be given by the Court 'till the end of the present year. but the purchasers will be allowed to take the leases and receive the rents or make Such engagement with the tenants as they can-
The Superintendents lessees will also be allowed to remove the temporary improvements erected by them during the present year but not after the 31st of Dec, and no rents will be allowed. "The arrangements of the Superintendent, must be respected for the present year"
Capt: Brown directs that you be guided by the terms of sale in the giving up of Property and Rents.
