(401) Richmond August 18th 1865 Ansel Capt: Supt; Goochland Co Captain It appears that many of the Freedmen on the Plantation of Patterson Allen have crops put in by themselves, still growing. The Asst Comr was not aware of this, when he gave permission to have these people sent away- He now suggests that someone of them (perhaps Frank Johnson) be allowed to remain and harvest his own crops and those of the other Freedmen under your direction. He promises not to molest Mr. Allen, and, to account fairly for the property of the rest- Respectfully &c By order of Col O Brown (Sgd) P.S. Evans A.A.A.G √ Official James A.
