The following cases are reported to have occurred at Liberty Ch., some two or three wees ago, ~ A negro boy, having stolen some honey, was tied up by the Thumbs and afterward had a ball and chain attached to his uncle for punishment, ~ He was not allowed to carry the balls and chain when he walked, but was made to drag it after him,

His face was Then smeared with honey and covered with flour, and he was again tied up, ~ Col Brown, Asst. Commissioner, desires That you investigate into the case, and if the facts are as alleged, that the necessary steps be taken to cause brutality to be punished. ~

A woman by the name of Laura Scott, living near Ayletts, on the Greenway plantation, King William County, charges Robert Garnett with having beaten her, and that he has refused to contribute to the support of five children, of which, she alleges, he is the father. ~ It is also represented that the former owner of Laura Scott, at his death left hi entire estate to the Colored people living on it, and that the Robert Garnett, above mentioned is defrauding them of their just rights therein, ~ B.Samuel Esq. and Mrs. Miner may be referred to for the truth of these statements,~ Col Brown desires that you will investigate this case and take such steps as it may seem to demand. ~
