I have the honor to inform you that on the 26th Ult. an order was issued from Head Quarters Dept, instructing Bvt Maj Genl. Curtis to detail one officer for the counties of Craig and Roanoke, one for the Counties of Pulaski & Floyd, one for Smythe, Tazewell, and Washington, one for Giles & Montgomery, one for Buchanan & Russel, one for Scott, Wise & Lee, & one for Wythe, Carroll, & Grayson, to report to you for duty in Bureau R.F. & A.L.

Please enquire into the complaint made against Mr Carey Brekenridge, Botecourt Co. Va, who is charged with sending several destitute families of negroes into Greenbriar County, West Virginia, and leaving them there in a helpless condition. Explain to him his duties in regard to such families and report as soon as possible his explanation of the case.
