The Asst. Commissioner directs that you proceed at once to Petersburg Va. and stop the sale of the following property advertized to be sold at public auction, by Capt Stuart Barnes A.Q.M & Supt. 2nd Dist. Bureau R.F and A.L. 21 tons cast Iron at Petersburg Va. Boiler, Engine, Carriage Etc. at Drurys bluff. 24 horse power, 400 sets Wagon wheels, 400 parts wagon wheels at Farmville Va. You will ascertain if the Lead works at Petersburg cannot be leased for a period of three years, to better advantage, than to be torn down, and sold at auction. if so, you will stop the sale, you will remain at Petersburg, untill the completion of the sale at that place, when you will rejoin these Head Quarters without delay.

Your Communication of 4th December enclosing 8 (eight) requests on the Q.M. Dept for transportation was duly received. You will please inform me why these orders remain unused and are returned at this late period. The order for transportation on Richmond will be sent you when you make a request, giving the names of the Freedmen to be transported, and if such transportation will relieve the government from their support.
