Captain, I have the honor to request that you will have placed opposite each school, on the enclose February report, the name of the society by which the school is supported. Officer Sir The following endorsement was returned on your communication to Bvt Major W.H. Felt C.S. dated 19th inst viz: War Department Bureau R.F. and A.L. Washington March 23rd/66 Respectfully returned - I have conferred with the Commissary General in relation to this matter, and he decides, that the Hospital Fund, cannot be expended for such purposes. In view of the necessity of the case, I would suggest that Col. Brown pay the rent of such small lots of ground as may be needed, out of the general fund, and that such sums be refunded to him if possible out of the sales of surplus vegetables raised on these lots. Sgd. Geo. W. Balloch Bvt. Col. and C.S. Vols. Chf. Accounting and disbursing officer. The Assistant Commissioner directs that you call upon the Assistant Superindentents of the Bureau, to report the amount for which suitable lots can be hired, in locations where such lots are needed.
