The Assistant Commissioner directs me to say to you that Major Croft of whom he wrote a few days ago, was retained here on duty until after the jubilee of the Freedmen.-
The Major leaves here on 6th inst. to report to you for duty.
He is a gentleman in whom you can place the utmost confidence and is duly qualified to aid you in the discharge of the very important duties which devolve upon you in the superintendency of the 9th District.
