Neide,
Friend
There is an old man formerly a rebel, now living at Hampton Va. 1 1/2 miles from Fort Monroe around the beach.
He has taken the oath and as he says forwarded the necessary papers for the restoration of his property to Washington and the property was promised to him, but has been re-leased by the Agent of the Bureau. The old man is very feeble and has no support except such as his children afford him. His daughter Mrs. Major General Gillem of our army was very anxious to have me try and do something in the case.
As it comes under your supervision please ascertain what the trouble is and let me know.
and oblige
Yours Truly,
(Sgd.) Trotter
Superintendent
