the following men, viz
William Sayles, Dennis Barnett, J. McKenzie, Marshall Lamb, George Moore, Turner Peel, Richard James, John Rixby, and Jackson Moore.
When these papers are returned, it must be stated whether the discharge papers of these men or any receipt for discharge papers, or any paper establishing their identity - were exhibited.
This must be done in all cases if possible.
The case of John Barnes will be forwarded to Washington.
The case of Lewis Johnson will also be forwarded. My letter of 19th March requested that when the vouchers of Lewis Johnson were returned, evidence of identity &c be sent with them, this was probably overlooked, as none was Enclosed.
The papers will be detained until this is forwarded. If he exhibits his discharge papers, or any paper establishing his identity, it will be sufficient.
