Major,
I have the honor to call your attention to the following statement -viz:
Philip Woodson - states that his mother Sally Woodson took Jack Woodson, her son, about 10 years of age, to Mr William Gaze's living in Fluvanna County, some time last fall, and left him with the understanding that he was to remain there until Christmas - Mr Gaze was absent at the time the boy was left, but Mrs. Gaze was at home-
Mr Gaze would not let the boy go at Christmas and he ran away- Lieut E.G. Budd Asst. Superintendent gave

Mr. Gaze an order to take the boy back.-
Philip also states, that there was no contract made by the mother with Mr Gaze and further that Mr Gaze took to boy back into the woods, some time before Christmas and beat him unmercifully, and that his mother greased the sores.-
Sally Woodson wishes to obtain the boy.
You will cause this case to be investigated and report the result to this office.
